ABSTRACT
In this article, the author reflects on the independence of educational bodies from government control. He as president of the College of Teachers in Great Britain suggests the ways by which such organizations can gain independence either by self governance or by autonomy. He talks about his support for an initiative taken by a teaching association in Punjab, Pakistan to become independent. He also appreciates the work done by professor Derek Bell for the organization.
