MY TWO sons have always adored the Disney film Finding Nemo, a fishy tale set in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. And Jake, aged eight, and Ben, six, didn't have to wait for this Easter weekend's UK release of the cartoon classic in 3D to experience the vivid spectacle of a tropical coral reef, after we took them Down Under to sample the real thing.

The transcription factor nuclear factor ?B (NF-?B) regulates various cellular processes such as inflammation and apoptosis. The NF-?B essential modulator (NEMO/IKK?) is indispensable for NF-?B activation by diverse stimuli including genotoxic stress. Here, we show that NEMO linear ubiquitination...

An important property of NEMO, the core element of the IKK complex involved in NF-κB activation, resides in its ability to specifically recognize poly-ubiquitin chains. A small domain called NOA/UBAN has been suggested to be responsible for this property. We recently demonstrated that the...

Nuclear factor-?B essential modulator (NEMO), also called IKK?, has been proposed as a ‘universal’ adaptor of the I-?B kinase (IKK) complex for stimuli such as proinflammatory cytokines, microbes, and the HTLV-I Tax oncoprotein. Currently, it remains unclear whether the many signals...

NF-κB essential modulator, NEMO, plays a key role in canonical NF-κB signaling induced by a variety of stimuli, including cytokines and genotoxic agents. To dissect the different biochemical and functional roles of NEMO in NF-κB signaling, various mutant forms of NEMO have been...

Signal transduction by the NF-kappaB pathway is a key regulator of a host of cellular responses to extracellular and intracellular messages. The NEMO adaptor protein lies at the top of this pathway and serves as a molecular conduit, connecting signals transmitted from upstream sensors to the...

NEMO is an essential component of the I?B kinase complex. Others have shown that expression of mouse NEMO can complement the lack of responsiveness to NF-?B stimuli in two NEMO-deficient cell lines. Here we report the isolation of a full-length human NEMO cDNA. Virtual translation of human NEMO...
