ABSTRACT
Nearly a quarter of a century ago, Julian Barnes published a bright, kaleidoscopic book with the intriguing title A History Of The World In 10½ Chapters. The ½ chapter is an essay about love: specifically, about his love for his wife, and her love for him. It is very touching. At one point, Barnes describes his difficulty in getting to sleep. His wife, who has no such difficulty, is fast asleep beside him.
