The article reports the new heart-sparing left breast radiation therapy implemented by doctors at Mercy Cancer Services, St. Louis County, Missouri, which uses techniques like deep-inspiration breath-hold and patient positioning to prevent damage to the heart tissue caused by radiation fields.
