Victory of the little film with a big, punk heart

THERE'S a line in the film,' Good Vibrations co-director Glenn Leyburn ventures. 'It's: "Victory isn't always the way other people expect it." I think that's the message of the film.' This isn't by way of excusing the drinking, the shambling, the let-downs that his protagonist — Belfast's godfather of punk, Terri Hooley — has chalked up in his time. 'Terri would be the first person to tell you he's flawed — as we all are. He's very self-deprecating and freely discusses his mistakes.' It's just that gentle, reassuring truth we ought to remember from time to time — that human beings are not the sum of their gold watches, gleaming awards and public praise — there are things unseen and unacknowledged, that may seem small but aren't at all.
