ABSTRACT
LOU MACARI read his former Manchester United team-mate Mickey Thomas branding the current Scotland team the worst he had ever seen and called him to protest. Now he plans another phone call — to apologise. For, as the Scots sit rock bottom of Group A after back-to-back defeats to Wales and Serbia, Macari now fears his old friend was right all along. 'Mickey Thomas is an old team-mate of mine and when he described the current lot as the worst Scotland team ever, I called him up and gave him a rollicking,' said Macari. 'Now, after watching them lose to Wales and Serbia, I owe him an apology. 'I have sympathy for Gordon Strachan because he has nothing to work with. 'In fact, if Gordon manages to turn this team around then I'll hold my hands up and acclaim him as the greatest manager who ever lived.
