ABSTRACT
The article reports on a testimony by U.S. Secretary of Department of Agriculture (USDA) to the House Committee on Agriculture in 2013 stating that any furlough of meat inspectors is several months away, but the length of time before those furloughs could begin will affect their impact. Vilsack explained that the structure of the sequestration mandates spending cuts of the same percentage in all accounts. He also cited plans to send notices to union representatives that a furlough is possible.
