Patrick McCabe: Heroism of a shipyard worker. On April 4, l983, during a deadly freon gas leak at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, shipyard worker Patrick McCabe, 25, gave his respirator to save a friend who was suffocating and ended up dying himself.
