ABSTRACT
Intoxicated with freedom, boisterous New Yorkers toppled their statue of King George III from its base at Bowling Green after hearing the Declaration of Independence read on July 9, 1776. The monument was broken up, and most of the pieces were sent off to be cast into bullets for use against the king's soldiers. What happened to the rest of the statue?
