ABSTRACT
The article discusses the Berlin regional association of the Deutsche Bibliotheksverband (German Library Association, dbv), arguing that in light of media controversy over the location and concept for the new Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (Berlin Central and Regional Library), the Berlin group should continue to expand the library's public and social functions with a broader notion of library science, following cities such as Amsterdam, Holland, and Paris, France.
