ABSTRACT
The aim of this research was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of red mombin fruits (Spondias purpurea L.) from 11 genotypes. Extracts were obtained by sequential extraction using methanol (80%) and acetone (80%), and subjected to quantification total phenolics content and antioxidant activity determination using two tests: DPPH• radical scavenging (1-difenil-2-picrilhidrazil) and the radical ABTS•+ (2,2'-azino-bis-(3-etilbenzotiazolina-6- sulfonic acid). The extract obtained from the IPA-9 genotype showed the highest total phenolic content (866.38mg EAG.g-1 pulp), exceeding, statistically, the extracts of the other genotypes. Regarding the percentage of DPPH• scavenging, extracts of fruits of all genotypes showed strong antioxidant capacity, considering that the values were above 70%. The kinetic behavior of fruits extracts obtained from genotypes IPA-2, IPA-3, IPA-4, IPA-5, IPA-6, IPA-7, IPA-8, IPA-10 and IPA-11 were classified as fast (TEC50<5 minutes). The antiradical efficiency the extracts presented by IPA-7 genotype could be classified as "super high". With respect to the ABTS+• radical all of the genotypes showed appreciable antioxidant activity and the genotype IPA-10 extract stood out presenting the highest activity (6,633.87μM TEAC.g-1).
