ABSTRACT
The article reports on the status of retail construction in the U.S. in 2012. According to the periodical's Retail Construction Survey, retail construction has declined by almost two billion U.S. dollars during the year. Among the trends for the year are major supermarket chains like Target, Walmart and Office Depot focusing more on smaller stores in urban areas. In the department store segment, Macy's spent 90 million U.S. dollars in 2012 to open seven new stores and a fulfillment center.
