ABSTRACT
Rangeley, Maine has the presence of no other Maine town. Rangeley is uniquely unlike the Maine towns it most resembles, because Rangeley, while most civilized, is rough-cut. The traditions implanted by the fisherman with the dry flies were strong ones in this town. Rangeley is fly fishing. The very nature of fly fishing itself, plus the remoteness of the town helped maintain the area's exclusiveness for decades.
