ABSTRACT
The article presents the benefits of Astaxanthin (AX), the most potent carotenoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It states that AX, produced by the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis and convected to shrimps and shellfishes and then to salmon and flamingos, causes their pink coloration. It also reports that AX, capable of protecting the nervous system and eyes by crossing the blood-brain and blood-retinal barrier, is available as FDA approved dietary supplement formulation.
