ABSTRACT
There has not been an in depth research on the heroes of the cartoons and the relationship between the cartoon heroes and traditional heroes. Through the study of heroes, which were created by the popular culture, the power of heroes in the social memory can be determined. This article asses the comic heroes of KaraoÄŸlan and Tarkan in terms of the re invention of traditions and destruction of traditions. The starting point was the "invented traditions" and "fake- lore" and these heroes are defined as patchwork heroes. These heroes are defined as the national heroes but when examined carefully it can be seen that they actually destroyed the traditions. These heroes have affected many people's life and they have identified themselves with them. It is most appropriate to assess these in terms of invented traditions and fake lore. In additional in article the concept of invented traditions goes hand in hand with destroyed traditions. Although destruction is a very sharp concept when read between the lines, it can be easily seen that when creating new heroes the real heroes are pacified and put in the shade. These points out the fact that these fake heroes are patchwork of the destroyed real traditions. The reason they are called patchwork heroes is that they are made up of various myths, stories or historical pieces. Therefore within the above context, this articles looks and examines KaraoÄŸlan and Tarkan as the patchwork heroes.
