Research of rock disintegration has been of long-time tradition at the Institute of Geotechnics, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Kosice. At first, the rock fragmentation process by disc cutters was studied using the laboratory large-diameter cutting rig. Knowledge from our research was used for development of monitoring systems. The latest versions have been applied at full-face tunnelling machines to excavate the exploratory adit of Branisko and Visnove-Dubna skala. No other tunnel boring machine has been used since 2002 to construct a tunnel in Slovakia. At present, drill-and-blast conventional methods are used in tunnel construction in Slovakia. Our research continues in theoretical study of mechanical rock cutting. We present our research results from full-face tunnelling. The paper deals with analysis of data acquired from monitoring of the excavation of the Branisko tunnel exploratory adit. Mathematical modeling methods are outlined, and the results of statistical data processing and the application of fuzzy modeling in processing of datasets acquired from the monitoring process of excavation by tunnel boring machine are presented in the contribution.
