The article discusses the history and growth of the International Committee of Representatives of Indexing Societies (ICRIS). The idea for a structure for international relationships among indexing societies in various countries was explored in the 1998 conference of the Society of Indexers (SI) in Tynemouth, England. Information is presented on societies that are part of the ICRIS including Germany's Deutsches Netzwerk der Indexer (DNI) and the Netherlands' Nederlands Indexers Netwerk (NIN). The ICRIS' efforts to promote the cause of indexing in digital publishing is also addressed.
