The article presents the results of a research project on students' attitudes to an English national curriculum that featured the study and writing of poetry. Two classes of high school students were interviewed after poetry-intensive curricula, and factors such as students' self-esteem, writing skills, and creative ability are discussed. The author recommends developing General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) tests to include poetry knowledge.
