Elwood's youth policy gets Swift approval

CONNACHT'S longestserving player Michael Swift has praised Eric Elwood for giving young, emerging talent a break even if it is putting extra pressure on established performers like himself. Elwood, having this season drafted in 19-year-old Robbie Henshaw and 20-year-old scrum-half Kieron Marmion with great success, has gone for another bolter for this afternoon's RaboDirect PRO12 clash at the Liberty Stadium against Ospreys. Galwegians Darragh Leader, a 19-year-old who has featured for Ireland Under 19s and just joined the Connacht academy, comes straight into the side at full-back for a clash with the champions at a venue where they have never won. 'We have said it all along if they are good enough, then they are in,' said Elwood yesterday. 'Darragh has been going well in training and impressed for the Eagles last weekend so now he gets his chance. He has great promise,' added the Connacht coach.
