ABSTRACT
The article discusses the problem of variability as a challenge to the philosophical theory of multiple artworks having to explain their repeatability and capacity to have multiple instances. The author considers the problem of variability within the general framework as it presents itself for standard ontological theories of the musical work, providing a precise formulation of the problem of variability, as well as discusses the general conditions wherein a multiple art form shows variability.
