Isolation and identification of chemical constituents of Solarium cathayanum

To study the chemical constituents of Solanum cathayanum. The air-dried stems of this plant were extracted with 95 % ethanol. The extracts were separated and purified by normal-phase and reverse-phase silica gel column, Sephadex LH-20, RP-HPLC. Six compounds were obtained from Solanum cathayanum and their structures were identified as β-sitosterol (1), daucosterol (2), N-irar2.s-p-hydroxy-phenethylcoumaramide (3), N-trans-p-hydroxyphenethylferolamide (4), N-irans-feruloyl-3-methoxytyramine (5), N-trans-feruloyloctopamine(6) by analysis of their spectral date and chemical properties. Compounds 2∼6 were isolated from Solanum lyratum for the first time.
