ABSTRACT
Steam distillation is one of the most used methods for the obtaining of crude essential oil (CEO). Many applications need CEO's fractions, enriched in a component or group of them, for which vacuum distillation is used. In this work we propose to make a division of the crude essential oil (CEO) during the process of extraction by steam distillation, for which different cuts were collected, instead of a unique final mixture as used in the traditional method. Experiments were carried out using aguaribay's (Schinus molle L.) fruits, leaves and stems. The composition of the different samples obtained was determined by gaseous chromatography connected to mass spectroscopy. The results show different components (and concentrations) for the different cut, which indicates that it is possible to achieve a valuable separation using this methodology.
