The article discusses the concept of mission command, which is defined as the exercise of authority and direction by the commander using mission orders to allow disciplined initiative within the intent of the commander to empower agile and adaptive leaders in operations. It cites the importance of trust to mission command. Characteristics of leaders who embrace mission command are described.
