ABSTRACT
This research aimed to analyze the implantation process of ALERT® Manchester Risk Classification System at the triage department service in a public hospital of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, based on the perception of nurses about the objectives proposed by the technology. This is a descriptive quantitative case study of, which used as tool for data collection a scale of technological innovation validated by Chaves, Marques and Dias (2006). The results indicate that the information about change that nurses had access originated from formal and informal sources and, in some cases, they considered it insufficient. The initial response factor presented the nurses' perception as being of moderate consistency, which motivates the professional to seek further information about the proposed innovation. On the conclusion factor, most pointed as final behavior the acceptance, while fewer respondents showed a pattern of indecision about the process of change. The individual moderators factor identified that they did not recognize the threat to social harmony with the implantation of the Risk Classification technology, and also showed a possible difficulty in recognizing that the change would lead to greater efficiency in user care giving. On the situational moderators factor, nurses believe that there is a tendency to inertia of the group, and also disagree that previous experiences of unsuccessful changes have led professionals to the disbelief on the successful implementation of future changes. Based on the data obtained through this research, it is necessary to understand the transformative potential of new technologies and the adoption of the strategy for its implementation in other organizations. I From this on, there may be a qualification of the act of providing and organizing the work, which gives nurses quality in their work of care giving of emergency services that uses Manchester Protocol (Triage and Risk Classification) as a working tool.
