This study was performed to design regioselective floating tablets of Diltiazem hydrochloride to give sustained release of drug. HPMC K100M is employed to sustain release of Diltiazem hydrochloride. Sodium bicarbonate is used as the gas generating agent and Dicalcium phosphate is employed as the channeling agent. Direct compression method was used for formulation of the tablets. The study employs development of floating tablets for different release patterns of Diltiazem hydrochloride using different concentration of HPMC K100M and different concentrations of Sodium bicarbonate. All tablets floated for more than 24 hrs. All formulations showed sustained release of the drug for 6 hr. Only F4 formulation exhibited an initial burst effect. F2 formulation has retarded the release of drug more as compared to other F1, F3 and F4. The drug release at 6th hour was found to be 50.58±0.80, 45.68±0.59, 50.30±3.65 and 50.30±0.25 for F1, F2, F3 and F4 respectively.
