ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Supreme Court has dismissed key provisions of an Arizona immigration enforcement law. The court upholds a provision that requires police to determine the immigration status of people suspected to be in the country illegally. It rules against provisions that would authorize police to make warrantless arrests when people commit deportable offenses, punish illegal immigrants who apply for work in Arizona and people who fail to carry official immigration papers.
