ABSTRACT
Slovakia is a country in central Europe bordered by the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, and Austria. For centuries, the Slovak lands were part of Hungary. For most of the 1900s, or 20th century, the Czech and Slovak lands were joined together in the country of Czechoslovakia. In 1993, they separated again and Slovakia became an independent country.
