ABSTRACT
The article explores the use of aluminium and magnesium alloys in the automotive and aerospace industries. It mentions that despite that both alloys can reduce weight and fuel consumption, they are susceptible to corrosion. It notes the use of chromate-containing conversion coatings to protect metals from corrosion, however, they are found to have carcinogenic effects and problems in waste disposal. It also emphasizes the development of a range of protective systems with self-healing ability.
