ABSTRACT
The article discusses research that analyzed fossil pollen sequences from Romania to explore the effects of climate change on community composition and biodiversity. Results reveal that community composition at a given was no just the product of existing environmental conditions, but also the product of past cumulative episodes of extirpation and recolonization. The study also shows that many circumpolar woody plants survived when environmental conditions became unfavorable.
