ABSTRACT
We report the dc magnetic susceptibility and electric modulus analysis of single layered manganite Pr0.22Sr1.78MnO4. Temperature variation of magnetic susceptibility shows a hump like feature around 210 K, presumably signifies the onset of orbital ordering in the system. Thermal hysteresis in the magnetization data over a wide temperature range (between 250-50 K) is related to the disordered influenced first order phase transition associated with the orbital ordering. Frequency response of the imaginary part of electric modulus exhibits three different relaxations among which two are possibly intrinsic in nature. The observation of multiple dielectric relaxations and large thermal hysteresis indicate the coexistence of tetragonal and two variants of orthorhombic phases in the system.
