A Group-based Data transmission algorithm in delay tolerant sensor networks

This paper proposes an efficient data delivery algorithm called Group-based Data transmission(GDT) for Delay Tolerant Mobile Sensor Networks (DTMSN). In GDT, we introduce the principle of node's "group exercise" behavioral characteristics in data transmission in order to deal with the problem of mobility model used in delay tolerant sensor network, and then lead to improved data delivery performance. In GDT, Inter-Group delivery will be achieved by multi-replica delivery based on its delivery probability that the node meets the sink, and Intra-Group delivery will be performed by single-replica delivery through established transmission path. Furthermore, redundant replica control mechanism is also introduced to optimizing replica management as well as minimizing network overload. Simulation results have shown that the proposed GDT not only achieves a relatively long network lifetime but also the higher message delivery ratio with the lower transmission overhead and data delivery delay than other DTMSN data delivering approaches.
