ABSTRACT
The article discusses emotional expression and the theory of tears. It states that tears are easily triggered in response to a sympathetic voice, familiar face, friendly gesture or other signs of safety. It says that people almost never cry in the presence of enemies, during periods of unrelieved sadness or at the height of a crisis. It adds that men may experience face loss when they cry in therapy for the first time and their embarrassment is enough to keep them from returning on sessions.
