The oil plants produce is used for food, fuel and other purposes. DOE Brookhaven Nat'l Lab researchers say they've found a key element in plants' makeup that limits production of these fatty acid oils. Using radiotracer imaging, they found a fatty acid that applies the brakes to oil production. The scientists said the finding suggests possible pathways to increase plants' oil production.
