ABSTRACT
The article explains the role of pharmacokinetic interactions in antiretroviral treatment (ART) for patients co-infected with HIV and tuberculosis (TB) in South Africa. The pharmacokinetic interaction are being tapped as potential treatment alternatives to Rifampicin, a drug that is applied on TB treatments that can weaken ART results by cutting plasma concentrations of co-applied drugs. Various pharmacokinetic options applied with ART include protease inhibitors and integrase inhibitors.
