Sub-Doppler high-resolution spectroscopy and the Zeeman effect of CS2 in the near ultraviolet

A single-frequency autoscan laser spectrometer operating in the ultraviolet in combination with a collimated molecular beam has been used to measure high-resolution fluorescence excitation spectra of the 6V, 10V, and 13V band systems of CS2. The Zeeman spectra at H=210 G are also measured with sub-Doppler resolution. In the 6V band system, 30 530.0, 30 529.2, and 30 530.5 bands, which are named after the wave numbers of the band origins, are identified, and all the bands are found to be Π–Π transitions from the X 1Σ+g 0110 level. The 30 530.0 band, which is the main band of the 6V band system, is found to be perturbed by nearby levels, and the deperturbation analysis is performed. Large Zeeman splittings into 2J+1 components are observed for the 30 529.2 and 30 530.5 bands. From the analysis of the Zeeman splitting and the line intensity, these bands are assigned as the transitions to the 3A2 state. Five series of lines (bands) are classified in the 10V band system, and all the bands are found to be Σ–Σ transitions from the X 1Σ+g 0000 level. Four bands are classified in the 13V band system, and all the bands are found to be Π–Π transitions from the X 1Σ+g 0110 level. The 30 900.5 and 31 199.1 bands are, respectively, the main bands of the 10V and 13V band systems.
