A global constraint and the inverse problem for ternary phase diagrams

A global constraint is derived for ternary phase diagrams at constant pressure and temperature. This constraint rules out certain diagrams with rotating tie lines. The inverse problem for phase diagrams is stated. It consists in proving, for a given phase diagram which obeys the known constraints, that a free energy function f exists which generates just this phase diagram.
