The article focuses on the readiness of the practice for the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) audits. It states that the U.S. Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is designing a program to conduct about 150 audits to assess privacy and security compliance of covered entities. It suggests compiling documentations that show the steps taken to be compliant with HIPAA requirements in preparation for audits.
