ABSTRACT
The article reports on the announcement of an International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 implementation delay by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius. The ICD-10 implementation delay is slated until October 1, 2014 giving general surgery practice a year delay from the October 2013 deadline. HHS say the change in the compliance date for ICD-10 would give ample time for providers and covered entities to prepare and ensure smooth operations.
