ABSTRACT
This text discusses, principally through oral testimonies, the process of historic change and geographic displacement of the Odham community of Las Calenturas Pozo-Prieto at Caborca City in the northeast of Sonora, in the second half of the 20th century. The Mexican government's policies on land distribution as well as the selective use of natural resources played a decisive role in this process, particularly in the prejudice of the Odham. This work describes the geographic mobility of the place of origin from a rural desert environment to the urban city of destination. Furthermore, it briefly addresses the perception of the Odham relating to this dynamic of social change that caused them to reconfigure themselves as an ethnic group in a socially and culturally distinct environment, the city.
