ABSTRACT
The article discusses the credit shared by East Carolina University biology professor Trip Lamb with several graduate students when they discovered a new genus of lungless salamander from the southern Appalachians. Known as the "patch-nosed salamander" because of the yellow patch on its snout, the new species was named Urspelerpes brucei to commemorate famed salamander ecologist Dick Bruce. It adds that it vies with the pigmy salamander as the tiniest species in the U.S.
