Assignment of Franck–Condon enabled vibrations in the NV1←X transition of cyclopentadiene

ABSTRACT
The absorption spectra of the NV1←X transition of high pressure samples of cyclopentadiene and cyclopentadiene-d6 were measured and analyzed. One hot band was observed in each isotopomer. This band was identified as the ring deformation mode. It was shown to correlate with the first vibrational subband of the electronic transition. A second subband of this transition, observed only in cyclopentadiene, was identified as the [larger_closed_square]CH wag. The implications of these results on the previous interpretation of this transition as a progression in solely the C[larger_closed_square]C stretching vibration [J. Chem. Phys. 93, 3850 (1990)] are discussed.
