ABSTRACT
GREECE may be gripped by austerity but some things never change. The Edward Lear bicentenary festivities start this week in Corfu with the unveiling of a bronze bust of the Victorian artist, created by Margot Roulleau-Gallais, at the Cavalieri Hotel. This was a Venetian mansion belonging to Count Spiro Flamburiari's family but was destroyed by the Germans in the Second World War, which may be why Count Spiro is calling for Germany to pay war reparations to Greece. Sir David Miers, ex-British Ambassador to Greece, will do the honours.
