ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a research published online in "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" on April 23, 2012 on the impact of bull DNA on traits such as disease resistance and milk production found in the contemporary Holstein cattle breed. According to senior author Harris Lewin, they developed the haplotracking technique to identify chromosome segments that are under selection in a certain population. The single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) identified are also discussed.

Beta-casein gene (CSN2) is considered a marker of milk production traits in dairy cattle. Allele A2, the most common in Holstein-Friesian breed, is beneficial for milk protein yield.
