ABSTRACT
The article presents an analysis of the silver production at the Quebrada de Tarapacá, Chile, during the pre-Columbian period. Particular focus is given to the archaeological evidence of small-scale purification of silver using lead, as well as certain methods of metallurgy and mining introduced by the Europeans.
