ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the economy of Syria. Syria's economy is based on agriculture, oil, industry, and tourism. The challenges faced by the economy even before the protests in March 2011 include a large and poorly performing public sector. Due to inefficiency and corruption, the Syrian economy faces low rates of investment and low levels of industrial and agricultural productivity.
