The article reports the increase in box office revenue by 10% in New Zealand for the three months ended March 28, 2012. Motion Picture Distributors Association president Peter Garner states that the release of some quality films in late 2011 contributed to the increase. The film "The Hunger Games" had the highest opening weekend in 2012 at 1,625 million dollars while "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" ranked fifth with 678,473 dollars. Garner cites the popularity of three-dimensional (3D) films.
