The Corruptive Influence of High-Stakes Testing

An article is presented by the president of the National Education Association (NEA) in which he suggests that high-stakes testing, required under the U.S. No Child Left Behind Act, interferes with a teacher's ability to teach. The author suggests that when teachers are forced to ensure their students perform well on standardized multiple-choice tests, it frustrates them and might even lead to cheating. He concludes that the purpose of education should be to prepare students for their future.
