ABSTRACT
The author discusses the use of attachment theory to understand the behaviour of clients at a deeper level. He describes how he developed narrative-based methods to bring the theory into his work as a coaching practitioner, supervisor and teacher. He suggests that coaches use the attachment framework to help clients free up the energy they spend on defences and to encourage clients to extend their tolerance in terms of their experiences.
