ABSTRACT
The author discusses the philosophical importance of Chekhov's works, portraying him as a writer with an original religious-philosophical worldview of the existential type, who greatly influenced the development of twentieth-century Russian philosophy. She uncovers objective and subjective reasons that Russian critics have underestimated Chekhov's significance as a thinker.
