ABSTRACT
The article reports that the alfalfa variety, N-R-Gee to be released by Cornell's plant breeders is expected to boost milk production. N-R-Gee is said to be highly digestible, is well adapted to the Northeast, and is expected to boost milk production up to 3.3 pounds of milk daily versus an industry standard. This increase translates to 181 U.S. dollars more per cow. The secret to N-R-Gee is reportedly a lower percentage of indigestible fiber and a higher percentage of carbohydrates and pectin.
